In order to reinforce all that we have learned thus far, today's class will focus upon reviewing key concepts of the course.

Hi students,

Today we will be focusing on the presidency of Thomas Jefferson. Your assignment will be to read an article on Marbury v. Madison the monumental court case of Jefferson's presidency and then read about the legacy of Jefferson.

Part1

Click on the link below to read the Newsweek Article “Why Marbury v. Madison Still Matters” and answer the questions below.

Answer the following questions and submit your responses when you return to class:

1)    Explain the origins of the Marbury v. Madison court case. In what way was this case representative of a bigger power struggle between Federalists and Democratic-Republicans?

2)    What was the court’s ruling in Marbury v. Madison?

3)    Why is the Marbury v. Madison case still important in our society?

4)    Do you think Jefferson was justified? Do you agree with Marshall’s ruling?

Part 2 - Jefferson's Legacy

Using the Library of Congress online exhibit "Thomas Jefferson," analyze Thomas Jefferson's life and legacy. 

Click on the following link for the section "Establishing a Federal Republic".  Describe Jefferson's influence in shaping the new republic. Select one document that demonstrates Jefferson's influence.

Describe Jefferson's life after the presidency. View the letters Jefferson exchanged with his granddaughter regarding slavery. How were their views similar or different?

November 4th Class work

Hi students,

Wednesday, November 4th, we will be focusing on domestic and foreign challenges faced by John Adams during his presidency. We will be contrasting Adam's policies with France & England with his predecessor, George Washington. We will also find out more about Adam's leadership style by watching "The American President" biography of John Adams. 

If  you will not be in class tomorrow, your assignment will be to use your "Liberty, Equality and Power" packets to compare Washington & Adams. Create a "T-Chart" with Washington in one column and Adams in the other. You will compare/contrast the presidents using the following themes: domestic policies (i.e. Alien & Sedition Acts), foreign policy (i.e. Neutrality Proclamation), and leadership style. You can submit the t-chart upon returning to school.

A final thought: organization is key to success in the APUSH class. Please make sure your binders are ready for evaluation and have dividers to separate your work for the 1st quarter into class notes, homework and classwork. I will be evaluating all binders this week.
